You are applying for an electrical apprenticeship in conjunction with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and the EKJATC of IBEW 773.

If you are accepted;

• you may be indentured as an apprentice and the EKJATC will be your sponsor for 5 terms (4 years) or until you have satisfied all requirements.
• you will be placed to work for an electrical contractor
• you could possibly work in the Residential and/or Commercial and Industrial sectors
• your rate of pay begins at 40% of a journeyman’s rate of pay depending on the sector. The Residential rate of pay is slightly less than the Commercial and Industrial sector.

The EKJATC accepts application packages ONLY from March 1st to March 31st annually. All application packages will be processed by the EKJATC shortly thereafter. In this first phase of the selection process only applicants selected for an interview and/or aptitude test will be notified by email. A second interview may be requested. The EKJATC may request a police clearance certificate from the applicant during the selection process.

After the interview process, only the applicants who have been selected for the Apprenticeship program will be sent a letter of offer. The letter of offer must be returned within 10 business days. The number of apprentices selected each year varies in accordance with the forecasted work picture in our area. Those applicants selected to the Apprenticeship program could expect to start work shortly after the letter of offer has been received. You will be required to complete 1 week of unpaid safety training.

During your apprenticeship you will be required to attend Mandatory Night School classes at the IBEW Training Centre in each of your four years. Night School classes run September thru March. YOU MUST maintain a 75% average in these classes. All successful applicants are required to follow all guidebook rules as mandated by the EKJATC. Violation of any rules may result in the expulsion from our program and cancellation of your sponsorship.

You will also be required to attend Government Trade School classes as mandated by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. As one of our apprentices it is mandatory to attend full-time day classes when they are offered. If eligible, you may apply for employment insurance while attending these Government Trade School classes.

With the large number of applicants interested in our Apprenticeship program, it is very difficult to be selected. To those applicants who are not accepted we would like to thank you for your interest and encourage you to apply again next year.
